Warren County Jail Inmate Search

Warren County Jail is the local county jail for Warren County, Illinois, and the first place to check for many local custody questions. A Warren County Jail inmate search is different from a state prison, federal, or immigration lookup because county jail custody is tied to recent arrest, pretrial detention, local sentences, transfers, and holds. The jail lookup process may require direct contact, public-records requests, court records, custody-notification tools, and state or federal locator checks, depending on where the person is held.

Warren County Jail Overview

Warren County Jail is operated by the Warren County Sheriff's Office at 121 North A Street in Monmouth. Sheriff Martin E. Edwards is listed as sheriff and jail superintendent in the IDOC inspection material. The facility is a county jail, not a state prison, so it primarily serves local pretrial custody, local sentenced custody, and related transfer or hold situations.

The 2024 Illinois Department of Corrections inspection describes a small, older jail built in 1915 and last renovated in 1986. It lists 22 rated beds, all male, arranged as 11 two-person cells across A North, B South, C North, D South, and E Block. The same inspection says Warren County houses male detainees for Warren County and Henderson County, while female detainees are housed in Knox County because the current building cannot meet sight-and-sound separation needs.

Warren County published a preliminary overall site plan for the Sheriff's Office and Jail project.

The official drawing set is useful for project context, but the captured county material did not publish a future bed count, so current capacity should still be read from the IDOC inspection.

Warren County Jail Capacity and Population

The best available Warren County Jail population numbers are inspection-date figures from IDOC, not a live public dashboard. The October 31, 2024 inspection listed 12 people in custody, all male, against a rated capacity of 22 beds. The prior September 6, 2023 inspection listed 5 people in custody. These are point-in-time counts, not average daily population and not annual booking totals.

How to Look Up an Inmate at Warren County Jail

No official public Warren County Jail online roster, recent-booking portal, or mugshot gallery was located in the county and sheriff sources reviewed. The lookup path should therefore start with direct custody confirmation and then branch to court, state, federal, or immigration locators depending on where the person may have moved.

  1. Call the Warren County Jail at 309-734-8505 for current custody routing and booking-status questions.
  2. If the jail cannot release the information by phone, submit a written FOIA request to the Warren County Sheriff's Office for non-exempt booking or release records.
  3. Search Judici or contact the Warren County Circuit Clerk for filed criminal charges, case dates, dispositions, and pretrial-release or detention entries.
  4. Check Illinois VINELink for custody or victim-notification information where the record is available.
  5. Use the IDOC individual in custody search for sentenced state prisoners, BOP for federal prisoners, and ICE ODLS for immigration detainees.

The sheriff FOIA route should identify the person by full name, date of birth if known, arrest date or approximate date, and arresting agency if known. Ask for booking/intake records, custody receipt or discharge time, transfer status, listed charges, and booking photograph when available. Illinois FOIA allows exemptions, so a request may be redacted or denied when the law protects the record.

Visiting Someone at Warren County Jail

IDOC's 2024 inspection says Warren County Jail has 2 visitation stations, but no official public Warren County visitation schedule, remote-video URL, visit length, dress code, visitor ID rule, or approval process was located. Because the current building is small and female detainees are housed outside Warren County, call the jail before traveling or trying to schedule a visit.

Mail, Phone, and Money at Warren County Jail

Warren County's official public pages do not publish a complete family-services guide for mail, commissary, or deposits. The IDOC inspection identifies provider facts, but it does not provide public account URLs, rate sheets, deposit limits, kiosk hours, or transaction fees. Treat the table below as a routing table, not a fee schedule.

Booking and Intake at Warren County Jail

Warren County booking follows the standard arrest-to-jail path documented in the IDOC checklist: legal authority and identity confirmation, search, fingerprinting and photographing, property inventory, medical and mental-health screening, record creation, housing assignment, phone access, and release or transfer paperwork. The jail may maintain personal records, medical screening records, cash and valuables records, visitor information, discipline records, case-disposition fields, judge and court fields, and release records.

Female-detainee placement is a key Warren County caveat. The 2024 inspection says female detainees are housed in Knox County because the current Warren County building cannot meet separation needs. Henderson County male detainees may also be housed at Warren County. That means a person physically in the Warren County Jail is not always a Warren County case, and a Warren County arrestee is not always physically held in the Warren County building.

Directions, Parking, and Transit

Warren County Jail is in central Monmouth at 121 North A Street, near the courthouse area around Broadway. Directions located from the Illinois Sheriffs' Association profile route drivers from the U.S. 34/67 bypass to the Broadway exit, east on Broadway to A Street, then north on A Street. The jail is on the east side.

Official Warren County sources did not publish visitor parking rates, a public lot designation, a visitor-entrance map, ADA entrance instructions, or lobby hours. Warren County Public Transportation provides curb-to-curb public transportation Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., by reservation. The county page says to call 309-734-6001 and recommends at least two hours' notice for same-day local rides, or 24 hours for certain longer trips.

Those project materials do not replace current visitor instructions for the existing jail. Confirm the correct entry point, accessible access, and current visiting status directly with the facility before traveling.

Warren County Jail Conditions and New Facility Context

The 2024 IDOC inspection is the strongest recent official conditions source. It noted inadequate staffing, specifically one jail officer during overnight hours, and recommended at least two jail officers per shift in the detention area. The inspector also recorded detainee concerns about medical care and cold food. Recent improvements included a new generator, new detainee uniforms, suicide spoons, an iris scanner, staff body cameras, and heated delivery bags for meal transport.

The official county materials show a new Sheriff's Office and Jail project with Goldberg Group Architects drawings dated February 20, 2026, and Phase 1 construction planning. Tri States Public Radio reported a 2025 project pause, while later news reported a 2026 groundbreaking and expected 2027 completion. Because the official captured county project materials did not provide a future bed count, the current page should not assign one.

Note: Confirm custody, visiting access, mail rules, and deposit options with Warren County Jail before traveling or sending anything.
